New Player Guide

From Project Einherjar

(For Returning RO Players)[edit]

Written by Laggy, last updated Oct 27 2022

Welcome to Einherjar!

This guide is meant to be a more in-depth dive for people already familiar with Ragnarok Online but new to the server. It will cover most of the custom changes and what you should know from a gameplay perspective. If you're totally new, I recommend you checking out Mitsune's Newbie Guide.

Help can also be readily found on our Discord server, and is the easiest way to reach other players. You can join via the following link: https://discord.gg/VcKQZdQ

Getting Started[edit]

It is highly recommended that you go through the tutorial for an easy path to Job Level 10. Advance until you get to the section where you are asked to use the Warp Gate to the training grounds, Lunar Fields. On this map you can test out a small starter selection of 1st job skills by talking to the various NPCs (a representative will be on the map for most classes, including Einherjar's custom ones.)

Each NPC will also offer a simple quest that can be immediately done on that map. Doing so will give you an account-bound box with a starting set of gear, Ornaments (also account-bound), and Runes for that class (more info on the latter two later on.) You can't open the box on any class but the one it's intended for, but you can sell extra boxes you acquire for some starting zeny.

Grind on this map until you hit Job Level 10, then talk to the NPC to get warped to the town that your selected job's 1st job change quest begins. Note that Einherjar is a server with free at-will stat and skill resets, so feel free to distribute points to Str/Dex early on to make the leveling process easier.

Picking Your Class[edit]

This begs the question, of course, of "what should I start as?" As always the answer will be "whatever you want to play!" Leveling on Einherjar is deceptively easy despite it being a low rate server on paper; because of the floating rates the actual true rates fluctuate from 3x to 6x, going up to 9x on the weekends, and both repeatable kill quests and the Bounty Board missions greatly relax the grind's difficulty, giving it more of a mid rate feel. In addition, if you're an RO veteran, I would highly recommend trying something new and picking one of the custom classes - they're Einherjar's strongest feature in my opinion, and will give you a fresh play experience!

Also, and this is advice you surely already know, bring a friend! Leveling is exponentially easier with more than one person and also far more fun, so there's anyone you can corral into trying out our server, you totally should. It also makes what jobs you play far less impactful on the leveling process since you'll be able to cover each other. The share range on Einherjar has been extended to 15 levels, so it's quite easy to stay within that while playing together the whole time.

If you're flying solo, though, and are looking for more guidance, the following suggestions are mainly aimed at people who have no strong playstyle preference and want a class that gets going out of the gate with minimal gear investment. These are good candidates for a first character that can help gear up other ones. As a disclaimer, these suggestions are my own opinions and are based on the time-of-writing of this guide, so feel free to ask others if you want a second opinion.

Class What It Does
Mystic Swiss army knife elemental mage/support hybrid. Having access to both Heal (even capped at Level 5) and all elements makes you resilient and self-sustainable. Spells have no ACD and cast quickly even with minimal Dex. At 2nd job, you gain a spell combo system where a simple loop with Grants full heals yourself regularly while fighting. At trans you get a powerful mini-Assumptio effect (Yngvi's Flare) that can be activated on both yourself and others. Just note that your reach is short compared to Wizards and you have no AOE, so combat will be at mid-close ranges and you'll want to avoid getting mobbed.
Esper Buffer with mostly short-range single target magic DPS. Having access to only Normal and Ghost elements at first will limit your leveling options a bit, but once you hit 2nd job you can get hard carried by Illusionary Blade - this friendly summoned sword will trivialize getting EXP for ages. You can also give yourself Ghost armor (and enemies as well, which solves your element restrictions on where you can grind!) After trans you can nuke hard simply by spamming Divines Wrath, and can support others with your ludicrous buffs.
Daimyo 1st job will be a little rough, as you're essentially a fancier Swordsman. Wild Swing is good AOE, and Heal Wounds helps with reducing downtime. You'll have access to the prime elements via the Samurai Platinum Skill Quests. 2nd job gives you a fantastic mobbing option (Sword Quake) though you'll want to use it with Earth Blade. Trans gives you absurd self-sustain, making you a mobbing machine that stays up by continuously taking damage and killing enemies - encouraging you to stay active and fight packs. Prioritize finding a high-weight 2H Sword ASAP (can start with vendor Two-Handed Sword; aim to buy an Atroce Weapon) and that's all you need gear-wise for a long time.
Hunter Still as fantastic as it was in vanilla with little investment. Kill things before they reach you. Access to all elements - just do the Arrow Crafting quest. Double Strafe efficiently carries you for ages and Ankle Snare in 2nd job lets you fight things far beyond normal reach. At trans, Sharpshooting is still one of the best AOE ranged attacks in the game.

Once you've settled with your class selection, remember to save your spawn point at the Kafra near the Prontera fountain (the server's hangout spot, where people AFK and merchant shops are set up.) Then go complete your job change quest!

Welcome to Prontera Fountain![edit]

There's a lot of resources around the fountain that are immediately accessible and important for a new player. Here's a list of most of them.

Warp Gate System

Einherjar has a fairly standard warper NPC system where you unlock waypoints by walking to them via foot for the first time. These unlocks are account wide. Town waypoints will require you to click on the Warp Gate, while dungeon waypoints activate automatically when you enter them.

  • Warping to towns costs 1 Blue Gemstone
  • Warping to dungeons costs 1 Red Gemstone
  • Warping to your most recent waypoint is free

There is a Gemstone Exchanging NPC that will get you the correct color of gemstones, if needed. Blue Gemstones are available from standard vendors.

Fountain Healing/Buff

The actual fountain is a clickable NPC that provides free HP/SP healing when clicked on. If your character is healed to 100% HP/SP you will also get a 20 minute buff that improves all of your stats, especially HP/SP regeneration. It is strongly recommended that you keep this buff on at all times while leveling as the regen is greatly beneficial.

Note that @ commands don't function while you're getting healed by the fountain.

Stat/Skill Resets & Daily Login Loyalty Points

The southwest building in the Prontera fountain plaza houses several important server-specific NPCs: the Stat/Skill Reset NPC and the Daily Login Bonus NPC.

  • The Stat/Skill Reset NPC does exactly as you'd expect. There is no charge for resets.
  • The Daily Login Bonus NPC can only be spoken to once per account per day. The login bonus resets at midnight server time (EST). In addition to accumulating Loyalty Points and getting a daily reward (both of which scale based off of how many consecutive logins you've made for the current month), you also gain a 60 minute 10% EXP buff. This buff also applies to Bounty Board missions and stacks with the inn's rested buff (see below.)

There are also some other important NPCs located here, used less frequently but still worth noting:

  • The Config NPC that can toggle certain @ command options to be automatically on when logging in to prevent the hassle of turning them on and off, such as @autoloot and @showexp.
  • The Platinum Skill NPC for trans classes is also located here, giving you all of your job's Platinum Skills for free.
  • The Loyalty Point NPC allows you to spend your daily login points on various things. For a new character, probably the most enticing option will be the option to reset the cooldown on the Bounty Board for particularly good bounties as a quick way to powerlevel.

Bounty Board (Kill Quests)

The signpost south of the Kafra (and probably surrounded by merchant vendors) is the Bounty Boards. This is a major source of EXP and should be utilized as frequently as possible while leveling. There is a weekly rotating list of monsters (switching out on Fridays during daily reset) ranging from low to high level targets and the bounty simply requires you to kill 150 of them. The EXP reward is a multiplier of the mob's original values (both for Base and Job EXP.) You also get a modest amount of zeny. Floating rates do not apply to the EXP reward.

Taking a Bounty Board quest has a 16 hour cooldown per character, which starts as soon as you take the bounty (you can check in your quests tab to see when yours will wear off.) You cannot have more than 1 of the same bounty at a time, but you can have multiple different bounties active. Even if you don't intend to play that day, it's a good idea to grab a bounty if your cooldown is off while doing your daily login or whatnot just to start the cooldown, unless you have no plan to actually finish it.

Bounty kill credit is shared in a party. No tagging is required, but partied characters must be within a certain range of the kill target in order to get credit. Note that the party does not have to be in level share range to help with bounty kills.

Inn Rested Bonus

Every major town has an inn, but the one you'll probably be visiting the most is this one. Due southeast of the fountain (a little outside of it, east of the Prontera blacksmith building) is Prontera's inn. For 5000 zeny you can get a 60 minute 10% EXP "rested" buff that also applies to Bounty Board quest turn-ins. There is a 2 hour cooldown on receiving the rested buff. It is recommended you stack this and the daily login EXP buff together when turning in large bounties.

Card Remover

She's in the Prontera blacksmith building in the southeast, in the southern room. You'll need a Star Crumb, a Yellow Gemstone, and 20000 zeny. Yes, there is a chance for the card and/or item to blow up. She's not just asking for show. Yes, it's very, very small (in the range of 0.01%.) If it happens, be sure to let everyone know.

There's also an extensive list of Player Commands that are useful - the one you will want to keep handy early on is @main. It will teleport you back to spawn after a brief cast. This largely makes Butterfly Wings redundant beyond needing to warp back immediately (if you're in a bad situation and about to die, and can't Fly Wing for whatever reason.)

If there's anything else you feel might be missing or unknown, consult the Frequently Asked Questions and see if it's been answered there.

Help! I don't know where to level![edit]

This is a pre-renewal server (albeit with high-end content slowly being ported over from renewal), so all of your old favorite leveling spots in RO still likely apply. The most basic advice is simply to do Bounty Board missions and play on weekends when rates are high. Here are some suggested spots if you need some direction.

(TBD)

Help! I keep running out of SP![edit]

  • Make sure you always have the fountain buff on; head back to town and refresh it
  • Grind in areas where a full SP pool allows you to get enough EXP (or close) to level, replenishing your SP
  • As an addendum to above, tune yourself to fight enemies efficiently that leverage your SP:damage ratio (just barely one-shotting is ideal, within kill range of autos is also good)
  • Don't be afraid to invest in some Int for leveling purposes - resets are free
  • Be willing to @main/bwing back to town for fountain healing as needed since it likely beats sitting on a map, even with the added travel time
  • Invest in Sustain, Enlightened, and Cost Down runes
  • Party with players that help with SP recovery such as Adepts, Priests, and Professors (and just party in general)
  • Use SP consumables as needed (Strawberries, Grape Juice, Blue Potions)
  • Use a Soul Taker card
  • Use a Nidhogg's Shadow Garment (trans only)

Help! I don't know where to farm zeny![edit]

  • mos_dun03 (Moscovia Dungeon) (requires quest to unlock)
  • mag_dun02 (Magma Dungeon) - requires AOE
  • ra_san01 (Rachel Sanctuary) (requires quest to unlock)
  • juperos_01 (Juperos) - requires AOE
  • abbey02 (Nameless Island) (requires quest to unlock) - requires AOE, has ranged mobs
  • Horror Toy Factory instance (located in Lutie)
  • Stockpiling and selling in-demand materials to other players (Elunium, Blue Herbs, Royal Jelly, etc.)
